Why is my page not indexed? A technical checklist

A page can be accessible in your browser and still fail to become an indexed search result.

1. Check the final HTTP response

Confirm the URL does not redirect unexpectedly and ends on a usable response. A redirect means the destination, not the starting URL, may be the page search engines evaluate.

2. Check robots.txt

Robots.txt can restrict crawling. That is different from a noindex directive and should be diagnosed separately.

3. Look for noindex

Check both HTML meta robots directives and the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header. A noindex instruction is a direct reason a retrievable page should not appear as an indexed result.

4. Inspect canonicalization

A canonical tag can signal that another URL is the preferred representative for duplicate or substantially similar content. Google treats canonical annotations as signals and can select a different canonical.

5. Remember: indexable is not guaranteed indexed

Removing technical blockers only makes indexing possible. Search engines still decide what to crawl, index and show based on their systems and the usefulness of the content.
